ACCOMPLISHMENTS 

  • Participated in Transportation Security Administration’s airport security personnel training initiative, the largest civilian training initiative since WWII. Selected to be a member of the team that trained the first class of screeners, Grand Rapids MI, 8/02.
  • Recipient of two life-saving commendations. One commendation awarded for saving the life of a fellow officer on a domestic call.  This incident was used by Calibre Press in its Street Survival seminar from 1988 to 1996. Second commendation awarded for critical investigative work that led to discovery and rescue of a newborn infant discarded by mother. 

 

EMPLOYMENT HISTORY 

2002: Trainer, Advanced Interactive Systems, Inc., Renton, Washington

  • Provided training for the first group of Transportation Security Administration’s newly hired airport security personnel. 
  • Trained these personnel in
    • The TSA mission and values
    • Customer service procedures,
    • Security procedures
    • Use of screening equipment.
  • Certified to train personnel in use of common explosive detection devices in support of 100% checked baggage screening effort.

1994 to present: Senior Instructor, Public Safety Training, Inc., Oak Harbor, Ohio

  • Responsible for classroom teaching, scheduling classes and developing lesson plans for training company offering a wide spectrum of homeland security, human relations, defensive tactics, instructional skills, and officer survival training for public agencies. 
  • Developed successful gender communications training program for public safety agencies. Contacts agencies and assists in determining training needs. 
  • Primary instructor for Instructor Training, Cultural Diversity, and Sexual Harassment Prevention classes.  Instructs in Sandusky Basic Police Academy in the following subjects: Patrol, Chemical Agents, Human Relations. Special Deputy with Ottawa County Sheriffs Department. 
  • Performed loss control services/ risk management consultation in the areas of policy review and workplace compliance for Public Entities Risk Services of Ohio, primary insurance provider for the Ohio Public Entities Pool.

1989 to 1994: Park Officer Supervisor (Chief Ranger). Ohio Department of Natural Resources, East Harbor State Park.

  • Provided direct supervision to park officers and lifeguards. Developed    schedules, conducted   evaluations   and   initiated disciplinary procedures; adjusted employee grievances. Maintained files of enforcement records. Compiled periodic statistics on criminal activity. Patrolled park, issued citations, provided emergency care. Conducted background and internal investigations for parks in the region.  Received mandatory formal training in conducting background and internal affairs investigations. 
  • Responsible for continuing training of officers.  Field training officer for new hires. Firearms instructor. Assisted in in-service training for department of 300 sworn personnel. Member, state agency investigator team.
  • 1993, title changed to Assistant Manager for Enforcement. Responsibilities increased to include direct supervision of campground    and    naturalist   operations.   Responsible   for safeguarding and processing large amounts of money.

1985 to 1995: Reserve Police Officer, Sandusky, Ohio, Police Department. 

  • Patrol officer, accompanying full-time officers on daily patrol.  Participated in high-risk warrant service.
  • Instructor, Sandusky Basic Police Academy in the following subjects:  Patrol, Traffic Enforcement, Civil Disorders, Drug Interdiction, Human Relations, Cultural Diversity.

1984 to 1989: Park Ranger, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, East Harbor State Park. 

  • Responsible for enforcing Ohio Revised Code, traffic code, and Division regulations. Presented Division cases in court.  Provided first aid and emergency   care   to   visitors.   Conducted   public relations activities.
